Leadership Institute
Advanced Training for School Leaders to Master Challenging Moments with Students

Overview

The RCD Leadership Institute will gather school leaders from across the country for an intensive one-day training & collaboration session focusing on how to successfully implement Responsibility-Centered Discipline, and how to take RCD to the next level.

Held on June 25, 2020 at the The Westin Peachtree Plaza and hosted in conjunction with the 2020 Innovative Schools Summit Atlanta, the RCD Leadership Institute will feature fresh perspectives from RCD Creator Larry Thompson. Attendees will also hear from RCD Master Trainers Eric Clark and Brian Dinkins. Leaders from communities throughout the United States will share about the challenges faced during implementation and how RCD is positively impacting their schools.

Institute participants will have the opportunity to discuss with RCD staff, and with other participants from throughout the country, how to overcome typical challenges with RCD implementation, the role of School Foundations, best practices for onboarding new hires, how to structure In-School Solutions, and how to develop and monitor coaching skills in staff.

RCD schools are seeing dramatic reductions in discipline referrals and suspensions, improved climate and culture, enhanced academic achievement and, perhaps most importantly, reductions in teacher stress and burnout.  Designed for Principals, Assistant Principals and RCD Implementation Team members, the Leadership Institute will provide insights and best practices for implementing RCD with fidelity.

The RCD Workshop held the day before the RCD Leadership Institute will provide attendees the opportunity to refresh themselves on the core RCD concepts.

Workshop Overview

Working with difficult, demanding, and disruptive students is not a new challenge for educators. However, there are current concerns being voiced regarding the changing nature and intensity of the behaviors of these students. Some educators are reporting increases in selfish, manipulative and hostile behaviors while others are noticing more students who are overly anxious and/or difficult to engage. Even well-seasoned, award-winning master educators can sometimes have their “feathers ruffled” by certain students in certain situations.

Responsibility-Centered Discipline is designed to assist all educators with identifying and addressing challenging student behaviors that affect the academic and behavioral progress of the students with whom they work. This power-packed seminar will provide you with up-to-date insights and strategies for reaching and helping those young people who seem to evoke the strongest feelings of frustration, hurt and sometimes discouragement in professional educators.

Learning Objectives:

  • Implement do’s and don’ts to address specific behaviors
  • Gain integral key strategies for migrating from an obedience-centered approach to a responsibility-centered approach
  • Develop innovative ways to support positive behavior
  • Apply strategies for preventing the escalation of difficult behavior
  • Identify the underlying causes of difficult behaviors in students
